Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine faculty member featured at Conference on Teaching and Learning Assessment

Dr. Michelle Schmude part of roundtable discussion on coronavirus impact on higher ed at Drexel University event

Scranton, PA (09/21/2020) — Michelle Schmude, EdD, Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (GCSOM) associate dean for admissions, enrollment management and financial aid and an associate professor, participated in a round table discussion on the effects of the coronavirus on college/university campuses. The discussion was a featured session during Drexel University's seventh annual Conference on Teaching and Learning Assessment, held virtually on Sept. 9.

Dr. Schmude was joined at the roundtable by Greg Null, MA, assistant director of assessment and accreditation at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine; Gerald Kobylski, PhD, director of institutional effectiveness and professor of mathematical sciences at the United States Military Academy; Rebecca Graham, PhD, director of institutional assessment and outcomes at the University of the District of Columbia; and Malva Daniel Reid, PhD, associate dean, University of the District of Columbia

The presenters discussed the experience on their campuses and initiatives that arose from the challenges posed by the pandemic. The panelists also shared their stories and took part in a question-and-answer session.

The conference annually gathers more than 500 higher education faculty and administrators to acknowledge that the quality of the student academic experience must be the driver behind all assessment and accreditation activities and to learn how to include as its focus students' active engagement and understanding, along with the ability to assess it.
