Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine associate dean invited to teach at Harvard Macy Institute
Michelle Schmude delivers session on communication styles at Harvard Macy's Program for Educators in Health Professions
Scranton, PA (05/23/2018) — Michelle Schmude, Ed.D., M.B.A., associate dean for admissions, enrollment management and financial aid, as well as an assistant professor in Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine's (GCSOM) Department of Clinical Sciences was invited to teach a session at the Harvard Macy Institute. Dr. Schmude presented Communication Styles: How to Better Understand and Effectively Communicate with Otherswith Brian Sharp, Ph.D., assistant professorin the Department of Communication Sciences and Disordersat Loma Linda University's School of Allied Health Professions.
Dr. Schmude taught the session at Harvard Macy's Program for Educators in Health Professions, held during May 14 - 18 at Harvard Macy Institute, Boston. Professionals who enroll in the program are any faculty involved in training healthcare professionals, such as physicians, nurse practitioners, psychologists and social workers. Since faculty for the Program for Educators in Health Professions are largely from Harvard, Dr. Schmude's appointment - based upon past sessions she taught or facilitated -- is very prestigious.
The goal of the Harvard Macy Institute Program for Educators in Health Professions is to enhance the professional development of physicians, basic scientists and other healthcare professionals as educators. The program is built around six major themes: the science of learning; teaching skills and strategies; inquiry and evidence in education; curriculum design; leadership development; and innovations in education.
The Harvard Macy Institute was established in 1994 with a grant from the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation. The Institute is a collaborative effort of Harvard Medical School, the Harvard Graduate School of Education and Harvard Business School.
