Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine's innovative use of educational technology subject of conference presentation

Scott Koerwer, Ed.D., Michelle Schmude, Ed. D. and Erin Sutzko, Ed.D. invited to speak at t Drexel University's Annual Conference on Teaching and Learning Assessment

Scranton, PA (09/19/2019) — Three members of Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine's leadership team were invited to present at Drexel University's Annual Conference on Teaching and Learning Assessment on Sept. 12.

Scott Koerwer, Ed.D., Michelle Schmude, Ed. D. and Erin Sutzko, Ed.D. delivered a presentation entitled, "Utilizing Educational Technology to Advance Career Development of Students and Faculty Members." The session focused on the ways GCSOM uses educational technology to support student advising, coaching and mentoring model, specifically in an academic course devoted to students' professional identity formation and career development. In their talk, the GCSOM team also explored an additional benefit found in the school's emphasis on professional identity formation -- it allows faculty to advance their own professional identity and career trajectory. Leadership also discussed how the school's digitally innovative career development model improves student academic success and retention and enhances placement into professional schools and careers within the healthcare arena.

Dr. Koerwer is GCSOM's vice president of strategy, planning and communication and vice dean for graduate education for the School of Graduate Education. Dr. Schmude is associate dean for admissions, enrollment management and financial aid and an associate professor and Dr. Sutzko is associate dean of the School of Graduate Education.
